Emergencies

To contact us in an Emergency at any time: phone 012 991 3573

Valley Farm Animal hospital’s emergency service operates 24/7, even on holidays. It is not necessary for you to phone ahead as there are always staff on the premises to assist. However, if you do call ahead we can prepare for your pet if it has a life-threatening condition.

Because we are geared to deal with all kinds of emergencies, your pet will be in good hands whatever the problem. Typical examples of emergencies we deal with include: trauma cases, motor vehicle accidents, dog bite wounds, lacerations; toxicities such as snakebites, gastric dilation surgeries, caesarian sections, organ failure (liver, kidney or cardiac), status epilepticus and seizures.

To give you the best service possible our emergency doctor is ably assisted by a qualified veterinary nurse and kennel staff. Reception staff are on duty until midnight to assist you with any shop purchases and to facilitate a smooth admission procedure.
Pets do not keep office hours and sometimes the more complex and serious cases arrive outside normal hours, so our emergency vet is supported by a surgeon and a specialist veterinary physician, who are just a phone call away.

Your pet will receive a thorough examination by the doctor on duty so that a treatment plan can be advised. With access to state-of-the-art facilities, such as an in-house laboratory, ultrasound, endoscopes and a digital x-ray facility, a diagnosis can be made promptly in most cases.

Your pet can be cared for in our High Care Unit if it remains in a critical condition after emergency treatment has been given. The on-duty doctor, nurse and kennel staff are responsible for critical care and constant monitoring of all in-patients, giving you peace of mind should your pet have to stay with us.

Please note that we will need to take a copy of your ID or driver’s license when you come in. The costs of any treatment your pet receives will be payable at the time. For patients admitted to the hospital we require a 50% deposit. We accept debit /credit cards (except Diners), cash and we can provide a secure internet connection for bank transfers.
